Spin in Sickness and in Health

I adore Paul Newman.  He’s an actor’s actor.  Distinguished and inspiring in his on screen presence and in his life as a businessman and philanthropist.  Several years ago, my work allowed me to meet and get to know Paul Newman as a person – not just a star – and forever he holds my respect.  He’s a no spin kind of guy!

Steve Jobs is a genius.  While I never met him, the passion and innovation he brings to his adored Apple makes him an extraordinary leader whose creativity transforms the way we enjoy, embrace, and crave technology.  Steve Jobs is an icon in his own right.

Sadly, stories circulated online and throughout the media suggest Paul Newman and Steve Jobs both are sick.  There is much speculation.  There also are statements about health as a “private matter.”

Some say, especially for Mr. Jobs, that Apple is obliged to come clean and fully disclose his personal health situation.  The Technologist column in the current issue of Newsweek (published online July 26) makes the case with multiple bloggers commenting on both sides of the issue.

I think personal health is a private matter – CEO or not.  Company health? That’s a different story.

What do you think?
