Favre vs. Thompson = No Winners

A disturbing thing happend this morning. I found myself learning about the most recent development regarding the retirement/un-retirement of Brett Favre.

A little bit of background for those of you who don’t follow the Packers (i don’t know why anyone would be a fan of another team). - Brett Favre changed his mind after retiring from football in early march and now wants to play again. Ted Thompson, GM of the Green Bay Packers, has issues with this. Favre asked to be released to be able to pursue football elsewhere. Ted Thompson refuses to release Favre, as he is one of the best quarterbacks ever to play the game and still has 3 years and nearly $40 million left on his contract with Green Bay.

Naturally, I have issues with this infighting. I LOVE the Green Bay Packers, they are my team, and I am a huge fan. I believe Brett Favre to be the greatest quarterback ever to play the game, and he has started EVERY PACKERS GAME SINCE I WAS 12 YEARS OLD.

I can’t pick a side. In fact, I don’t want to pick a side.

But I do know that last night’s developments bother me. Favre was interviewed and suggested that Thompson has been spinning the recent events by leaving out important facts regarding the situation at hand. Is that only true for Thompson, or have Favre and his agent Bus Cook also been leaving out facts? I would like total transparency on this issue from both sides.  All the finger pointing and hearsay needs to stop. All that is happening with non-transparent communication is the reputations of both Favre and the Packers are becoming tarnished.
